Cupid Shuffle 5K Race 2016

posted Feb 15, 2016, 8:55 AM by Elvira Deyamport

The 2016 Thames Cupid Shuffle 5k was a success. It took place in the University Heights neighborhood in Hattiesburg with the starting and ending points at Thames Elementary School. We had a small but eager crowd on the cold Saturday morning to raise money for our positive behavior intervention and support system (PBIS) at Thames. We raised over $1900 for our students with the help of our sponsors and runners.

Once the gun went off, Dan The Rocket Vega, took an early lead and hung on to win the race in 19:07 followed by Brandon Sullivan, and Heyden Chapman. Melissa Engle claimed the victory in the women division in 26:30. Pine Belt Pacer Becky Wilks finished 46 behind Melissa and took the Masters honors. PBPacer Jessie Armstrong won the costume competition.

A big thank you to all of the volunteers (teachers, administration, parents, AmeriCorps volunteers, friends, and The Arc ladies respite group). The race wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers and participants!
